Recruiting the best Portuguese teachers in New York City is just the beginning. Only native Brazilian instructors, with university degrees and extensive teaching experience are invited for a series of interviews with senior Brazil Ahead staff, rigorous written exams, and demonstration classes.

Cristhiane is the founder and managing director of Brazil Ahead. She has developed Brazil AHead's unique Communicative Approach for the most effective Portuguese instruction, building on her extensive experience and participating in leading workshops and seminars for teachers of Portuguese as a Second Language (PLE). She ensures Brazil Ahead leverages on the latest advances in Brazilian Portuguese instruction and conducts weekly training sessions for Brazil Ahead's instructors.
Cristhiane has graduated in Portuguese and English Literature from the State University of Rio de Janeiro and in Advertising and Marketing from the State University of New York. She has been teaching Portuguese for 14 years, and believes the best way to teach her students is by tailoring classes to suit their specific needs.
Cristhiane is fluent in Portuguese, English, Spanish, and conversant in French and Italian.
Karina was born in Porto Alegre, south of Brazil. She holds a Bachelor's degree in International Relations from Centro Universitário Ibero-Americano (UNIBERO), an MBA with specialization in Environment from Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV), and International Business from University of City of São Paulo. Karina loves travelling, teaching and learning other cultures. Besides Portuguese, she speaks English and French. Her experience with kids started in the 90´s, at different schools, in Brazil. After that, she taught and helped people with special needs. She loves to teach and learn from kids and adults.
Lisa was born in Jamaica, West Indies and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She loves all of the diversity that New York has to offer. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from New York University and NYS OASAS Certification for addiction counseling. Her career as a counselor has been spent helping people reach their greatest potential. Lisa discovered her love of Brazilian culture during her study of Capoeira. That led her to the practice of “samba no pé” and the study of Brazilian Portuguese. As an ESL instructor, Lisa brings the empathy and ability to form personal connections that she developed as a counselor, to her teaching of English to Portuguese speakers.
Cristiana is originally from São Paulo, Brazil and since 2016 she is living in New York. She graduated in Biology from São Paulo State University (UNESP) and she also has a bachelor's degree in Pedagogy. Cristiana has devoted most of her life to education, having more than 18 years of experience as an educator in Brazil. The large experience renders Cristiana a versatility teacher that is always looking for the best for her students. She truly believes that the teaching-learning process can be enjoyable and enriching.
Talita is originally from Massachusetts/United States, but she went to Brazil very young. She graduated from Faculdade de Direito do Vale do Rio Doce – FADIVALE in Law in December of 2014. Talita also specialized in Public Law with emphasis on Public Management in 2017, and she worked as a lawyer for two years in Brazil. Talita moved to New York because she likes challenges and she has passion for languages, diversity and learning about other cultures. She had a lot of volunteering experiences because she loves helping and meeting new people. Talita believes that teaching Brazilian Portuguese language to foreigners is certainly very enriching.
Rosana is from Sao Paulo and has 25 years experience in teaching. Throughout her career she has worked as an educational therapist giving motivational talks to various institutions and companies, educational development, participating in research groups for the development of bilingual children. Rosana has a degree in Education with specialization in school supervision and teaching matters for the 2nd Grade, an MBA in HR with specialization in training and has worked as a pedagogue and special educator working directly with autistic children.
Adriana is originally from Belo Horizonte, MInas Gerais. She lived in the USA as a child , but moved back to Brazil to finish her studies. She moved to OUro Preto where she graduated from Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto (UFOP) in language teaching (Letras - Portugues/ingles). She has been teaching since 1997 for kids and adults in schools and private settings in Brazil, USA and Ireland. She holds 2 certificates for English as a second language (USA and Ireland).
Lucas Santiago is from Ceará State in the Northeast of Brazil. He holds a Law degree from Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia Mater Christi, graduating in 2015. As a student he also clerked at the Ceará Public Defender’s office from 2012 to 2016. In February 2016, Lucas moved to New York. Here, his passion for languages led him to begin private instruction in Portuguese before joining the staff at Brazil Ahead. Lucas is also fluent in Spanish as well as English. He hopes to also master Italian and French.
Tatiana is originally from Mariana, Minas Gerais. Before moving to New York she lived in Rio for 15 years, where she graduated with a Business degree from Estacio de Sa University. She has over 10 years of experience in the tourism industry having worked with student groups from around the world as well as the European and American luxury markets. Tatiana loves traveling, cooking, biking, learning new skills, and meeting new people.
Monica is originally from São Paulo, Brazil. She graduated from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo with a Liberal Arts degree in the English and Portuguese Languages in February of 1997 and has a Certified Teacher’s Degree from PUC. In 2001, she moved to New York where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Bilingual Childhood Education (grades 1-6) and Roman Languages/Spanish in February of 2008 from the City College of New York and she is certified by the State of New York. In 2010, she earned a Master of Science in Childhood Special Education, Students with disabilities, from the Bank Street College of Education in New York. Since joining Brazil Ahead, she has also taught children and prepared students for the Celpe-Bras exam. Monica has been teaching Portuguese to children and adults since 1996.
Carol Regan is from Recife, Brazil. She graduated from Catholic University of Pernambuco with an Advertising degree in 2009. Carol also became specialized in Marketing from the University of Pernambuco in 2010. She taught as a professor of creative writing and Portuguese language for her last three years at Uninabuco University and School of Marketing College in Brazil, before moving to New York City in 2016. Carol also has experience as a copywriter and social media coordinator at various advertising agencies in Brazil. Carol loves traveling, cooking, writing and helping people learn Portuguese using creativity.
Tatiana is originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She graduated with a Business degree from IBMEC Business School and earned a Master’s Degree in Engineering from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio). She also studied in Paris and finished her studies at the prestigious ESSEC Business School. She is fascinated by languages, diversity, and life experiences. She has gained valuable teaching experience as a university tutor since 2006 and later as a college Professor at IBMEC Business School in Rio. Tatiana loves teaching, traveling, and learning new skills. Besides Portuguese and English, Tatiana also speaks French, Spanish, and German.
Dani is originally from São Paulo, Brazil. She discovered her passion for teaching during her first volunteering experience in 2005. After graduating with a degree in Industrial Design from Mackenzie Presbyterian University, she became a co-founder of a nonprofit organization that uses design and education as tools for social change. She managed the organization’s pedagogical department for many years, where she explored and experienced teaching youth and adults, as well as training and tutoring new educators. As a result, they got certified as a Social Technology by the Banco do Brasil Foundation in 2009, 2010 and 2011. Since moving to New York in 2012, Dani has built her own design consulting business, along with continuous volunteering work on education related fields.
